5 Types of Doors That Can Modernize Your Home
The more that you invest into your home, the higher the market value that you’ll be able to get out of it. Even if you’re not planning on selling your home anytime soon, modernizing your home is a great way to make your space feel new and updated. And who doesn’t want to feel like they’re living in a brand-new modern home?
One of the easiest and most dramatic home improvement projects that can modernize your home is to add new exterior or porch doors. Thanks to energy-efficient glass and insulation you can practically make an entire wall of your home into a large folding glass door and not lose any valuable heat or A/C!
In today’s post, we’re going to go over 5 types of exterior doors that can completely modernize your home and give it a whole new look.
5 Types of Doors That Can Modernize Your Home
Isn’t it time that you got rid of that old sliding glass door from the 1990s? Sure, they work, but let’s face it, they look a little bit outdated, to say the least. Why not replace them with a large set of bi-fold doors, some rustic french doors, or a super-modern set of sliding, fold-away door panels?
So, with that being said, here are 5 types of doors you should look into if you want to take your home into the future.
1) Folding Door Systems
If you’ve looked through some of the other blog posts on our site, then you’ll probably notice that we discuss folding door systems a lot. So, as such, we’ll start off by recommending a brand new set of panoramic folding doors. These are perfect for homes that have a lot of nature and make for a great set of porch doors.
The biggest advantage of folding doors is that you can open the entire door as a joint-system, folding the door panels to the side like an accordion. So, instead of having a small 3-foot-wide opening, you’ll have a fully open space that you can open up. This not only lets in plenty of fresh air and sunlight but will contribute to the space feeling more open and inviting.
Most folding door systems also feature a standard swinging door that you can use for everyday entry and exit without having to fold the whole system to the side.
2) French Swinging Doors
French doors are common to see in rustic homes, but can also showcase aspects of modern interior design as well. French doors are typically very wide and feature double doors that can both be pushed open to provide extra sunlight and french air.
Plus, they’re incredibly sturdy, and who doesn’t like a large, heavy, and imposing door to make a statement?
3) Sliding Door Systems
Sliding door systems are very similar to folding doors in that they allow you to completely open up the doorway. The only difference is that while folding doors fold to the side, sliding doors slide and then stack to the side.
They are typically designed to allow one pivot point on each door panel to be removed from the track. This allows them to be swung to the side and stacked perpendicularly to the other doors. Each door panel that you stack to the side allows you to create a wider, more open entry. If you want to open up the entire space, simply stack all of the door panels to the side!
4) Garage Door-Style Entrance
You’ve probably seen these types of doors featured in LA-style films or at modern restaurants. These are a really cool and modern way to open up an exterior porch door. You can purchase glass-paneled garage doors, install an electric door track, and then open and close your door with the press of a button!
On a nice day, you can open the door all of the way up or on a not-so-nice day, you can just open it a crack to let some fresh air in. Either way, as long as it has glass window panes, it will make your space feel far more open and spacious than old-fashioned porch doors.
5) Dutch-Style Door
Last but not least, we have to mention Dutch-style doors. These doors typically fit into smaller doorways, but can still add a modern touch to your home. Essentially, they’re single doors that split open halfway down.
This allows you to open the top half of the door while keeping the bottom half of the door shut. If you have pets, this is the perfect solution as you’ll be able to keep them inside while still letting fresh air in through the top opening.
Final Thoughts
Many of the top exterior door manufacturers build and design two or more of the types of doors listed above. Your best bet is to shop around with various folding door companies and take a look at their catalogs to see what they offer, as well as the pros and cons of each type of exterior door system.
